Kaisersack becomes Kaisertor
Kaisertor (formerly Kaisersack) is the name given to the area of lower Kaiserstraße. It is located between the main railway station and Kaiserstraße, the central (pedestrian) link between the main railway station and the city center.
The city government of Frankfurt am Main would like to redesign this area. Various measures have therefore been implemented there since April 2024. A test phase until the end of 2024 will examine which of the measures are particularly well received and effective. These findings will then be used to permanently redesign the area.
Measures implemented since April 2024:
- Car and delivery traffic in the upper Kaiserstrasse has been restricted between the sections "Am Hauptbahnhof" and "Moselstrasse".
- The area up to Moselstraße became a no-parking zone.
- Parking spaces were made available for additional restaurant seating and converted into areas for parking bicycles.
- Geofencing has been set up for e-scooters. They can now only be parked in designated parking spaces outside the Kaisertor.
- The Kaiserstraße was artistically designed with colorful paint up to Moselstraße.
- Flowering planters have been installed.
- New food containers were set up in the pedestrian area at the end of Kaiserstraße. Drinks and snacks are sold there.
- The area at Kaisertor is cleaned more frequently.
- Additional foot patrols from the state and city police patrols on site.
Citizen participation in the redesign measures at the Kaisertor
An online survey from July 15 to August 31, 2024 will give you the opportunity to provide your feedback on the various measures that will be implemented during the test phase. Further feedback from affected target groups will be collected via workshops.
The aim is to provide answers as to which functions, uses and visual improvements are perceived as useful and desirable for the Kaisertor area in the future.
Use of the results
The results of the online survey will be evaluated at the end of the survey period and published here on the website 'Frankfurt fragt mich (ffm.de)' and presented to the city administration and politicians for further decision-making. The results will also be incorporated into the development of a long-term vision for the entire Frankfurt station district.
